Wild Rose Herbal Detox Day 9

Day 9 started with DH and I both being back down a bit. Feeling good - had some yummy rice puffs with a bit of strawberries, blueberries and peach.

Lunch was the usual - fried rice and quinoa - it is really good - so I'm not getting bored of it at all. I will definitely continue making this in the future.

For dinner I tried a new recipe - I had been craving pasta - spaghetti with meat sauce...so I tried a variation. I cooked some extra lean ground beef and added some Italian spices to it. I then cooked some spinach, grape tomatoes, green yellow and orange peppers and some garlic and added it to the beef along with some brown rice. OH EM GEE! It was delicious. Lauren put up her hand, not sure why ha!, but said "I'd like to say that this is so good and we should all tell Mommy something we like about this dinner" It really made me happy. She is a bit of a picky eater, and it's hard to get her to eat well at dinner - but she did amazing and pretty much devoured it all - I don't even think she knew she was eating tomatoes and peppers....until I told her...and then all she did was giggle. LOL

It was just E and I during the evening and L went to cheer on Daddy's girls' basketball team. We cuddled and watched a movie and had some strawberries for a snack.
3 more days to go!

Wild Rose Herbal Detox Day 8

Day 8! DH and I were both up this morning and we think we figured out why. The corn pasta that we have been eating, is probably not the best choice. Although it is not made from gluten or flour, it's the process of the corn flour making a glue like substance inside our bodies that may be hindering the whole detox process. DH had been noticing that he hasn't been having to use the bathroom as often the past few days. It could definitely be because of the pasta. Sad, we can't eat it - as last night's batch was SO good.

This morning, I started out with my usual - puffed rice, berries and almond milk. I have heard some terrible things about soy milk and estrogen lately, so I think I will be staying away from it. It's funny as my cycle started 3 days early...which is unusual. Should've gotten it tomorrow, but started on Saturday morning. Perhaps because of the soy I had drank...or maybe the detox affected it, who knows.

For lunch, I had the fried rice and quinoa with some cucumbers. I made a new batch and added a lot more cabbage and spices, it was delish!

Dinner was lemon baked tilapia, brown rice and green beans. The tilapia sure is a yummy fish. Very mild - the kids seem to like it. Although, they like most fish, which is great.

I had my first physio session - it went very well. He (Phil) did an assessment and showed me some exercises. With a little massage, I was able to flex my foot a lot more than I had been able to. I go back on Thursday to see him again.

Once home, I snacked on a peach and a plum and turned in early.
On to Day 9!

Wild Rose Herbal Detox Day 7

It is Sunday. It is Day 7. It is the beginning of the week that we end this madness. Ha. I kid! But...really...the end is in sight. This Friday will be the last day of the detox. I can't wait to be honest, I'm so tired of the stomach issues....the cramping is so painful. I'm ready for my normal tummy to return.

For breakfast, I had the puffed rice with berries and almond milk...it tasted a bit better today - maybe I didn't shake the carton well enough. Who knows. I am loving this breakfast a lot...I know I've said that already. I tried some warm water with lemon this morning at the advice of a friend - it's much nicer cooler, but the warm water is supposed to help...so I'll try it again tomorrow.

Just dropped the kids off at a birthday party at the movie theatre for a friend of theirs. This is E's first friend b'day party - he was so excited. I wish I could've gone - they are seeing Beauty and the Beast! My 2nd favourite Disney movie. (And if you're wondering, The Lion King is #1) Kind of wished I could've stayed to see the movie. =(

Got home and made a big beautiful salad.Lettuce, spinach, cucumbers, carrots, radishes, tomatoes and almonds with a light olive oil and lemon dressing. It was delicious. And because it was so big, it kept me satisfied for a while. The kids have their skating lessons this afternoon as well - so we will be at the rink for about an hour before dinner. Not sure what I'll be making tonight...but I'll be back in a bit to update you on our 7th Wild Rose Dinner!

So....I'm back - the kids had a fantastic time at the movie b'day party. E did so well at his first party and L loved the movie so much in 3D. Skating went great - L is doing SO well...skating in circles and going backwards, E was doing much better at getting up onto his feet. So...onto dinner time...I made a new chicken recipe - - Paprika Oregano Chicken along with corn pasta with tomatoes, yellow peppers & spinach and some asparagus. The chicken was delicious! We will definitely continue making it after the detox is over.

We watched the newest Once Upon A Time with the kids and had some popcorn. E said to me "It's not fun watching our shows. But it is fun watching it with popcorn" Ha! That was my cue to get popping those kernels. Ha.

Day 7, over and out!

Wild Rose Herbal Detox Day 6

So, today is day 6. There wasn't much action on the scale this morning - I was down 0.2 from yesterday and DH was the same. I suspect the copious amounts of popcorn we ate last night with the kids.

This morning for breakfast, I had the rice puffs with berries but this time with almond milk. I'm not sure if I was as big of a fan as I was of the soy milk - it was still good, but I think I may like the soy milk better. It's a really tasty breakfast and I may continue with this after the cleanse - I like cereal in the morning - and usually have Special K Satisfaction, but this costs me a lot of WW points. The rice puffs would be a much healthier and less expensive option when it comes to the points.

For lunch, I had some cucumbers and the fried rice/quinoa, but while at groceries this morning I bought some garlic and red pepper seasoning and added a bit of that to it, and boy, was it WAY yummier. May try for a tiny nap this afternoon - heading out to an Epicure Selection party tonight. I'm so worried that my stomach is going to give me a hard time tonight...and it sucks, cause if you know what Epicure is - I'm sure there will be a lot of yummy dips and treats to try - that I won't be allowed to eat! SUCKS! And I'm sure she'll have pop there - ugh! Double SUCKS! LOL

For dinner, we had meatloaf, baked potato and broccoli & cauliflower. I love it. Here is the yummy recipe:
*just under 1lb ground beef
*grated carrot - about 3 carrots (I use about 5-6 baby carrots)
*grated potato - one big one
*grated onion
*3/4 quick cook oats
*salt, pepper, dry mustard powder, garlic, oregano, basil and parsley (I omit the mustard powder and other spices and add Montreal Steak Spice - YUM!)
*Baked at 350F for one hour. YUM!

It's great 'cause the kids love it, too - although L LOVES it, she made sure to tell me "ugh, Mom, we already meatloaf this this week" HA! And we're going to have it one more time before the detox is over! hahahahaha. Poor girl ;)

So I went to the epicure party at a friend from high school's place - it was nice seeing some of my old friends. The party went OK - they had all the samples set up in the kitchen...so I just parked my bum on the couch with some water and looked through the catalogue without trying anything! Everything looked really yummy, but I had some pretty strong will power and stayed out of the kitchen! I did order a few things - a Bruschetta mix, a Pesto mix and a cheese, chives and bacon dip mix. Have never tried anything from epicure...but hear amazing things...so we'll see.

Anyway - that's it for Day 6. 6 more to go! We are halfway there!!!!!

Wild Rose Herbal Detox Day 5

Day 5! That means next Friday we will be finishing our 12 days. It's nice to think that we only have 1 week left. It's not that this is terrible...but I am struggling with meal ideas, especially at lunch time. Dinners seem to be a lot easier as we can eat as much fish as we want - but any type of meat, eggs, etc is in the 20% column and it's advised not to eat as much of those items. I should research some more recipes - or try and find the WRHD cookbook.

Breakfast today was the puffed rice and soy milk with mixed berries - I am really enjoying this breakfast. It's yummy and filling. I felt really good this morning. Was a very busy one and felt great doing all the jobs I needed to get done this morning.

For lunch, I had a bowl of the fried rice with quinoa. I made a big batch the other day and don't want it to go to waste - so I ate it...again. One thing that is driving me crazy...and I probably should just move them from the fridge...is the cans of Diet Coke staring at me every time I open the door. They are calling my name! "Drink me, Hollie" Oh boy, do I ever want a diet coke SO badly. All I've had for 5 days is water...or water with lemon. YUM! =S

Tonight the kids had swimming - we usually pick up dinner afterwards, but because of this detox - we came home and made ourselves some eggs. DH made me dinner - was great. Onions and peppers in a yummy omelet with an apple for dessert. We had a lazy evening watching American Idol and Once Upon a Time - the kids love both of those shows so we had a pretty fun night - with some yummy air popped popcorn. Onto Day 6!

Wild Rose Herbal Detox Day 4

So, as I suspected I was up a bit this morning - not too much but enough to remind me not to have anything SALTY before bed again LOL

Breakfast again was the puffed rice with soy milk and berries - so yummy. I was duty parent at E's preschool this morning and I was so worried that my stomach would continue to give me trouble as it had been horrible first thing this morning. Thankfully, I was fine and had a great morning with my little man and his preschool friends.

For lunch, I switched it up a bit and had mixed peppers in an omelette, some cherry tomatoes, pear and cherries. Was a great lunch and kept me satisfied for most of the afternoon.

Dinner was salmon, brown rice and broccoli and cauliflower. Am really enjoying fish - on the detox you can eat as much fish as you want...so tonight we headed to Costco to pick up some more kinds. Was feeling great until we were getting into the car - my stomach started cramping and I felt terrible. This may have been the worst I felt over the past few days....it left me feeling exhausted and with a massive headache.

So - it is now 9:12 pm on day 4. I have just finished making L's lunch and am snacking on a plum and I am off to bed. These little eyes can't stay open much longer...and definitely need to rest this head ache...I think it's bad enough for some Tylenol...it's a-pounding!
Night!

Day 4 Weight:
Me: 163.3 (Total -3.1)
DH: 264.4 (Total -7.4)

Wild Rose Herbal Detox Day 3

Well, Day 3 is here...the first 2 days have been great. So far I am feeling much better than the last time around. I looked back at my detox blogs from last June and Day 3 I was a dragon! Bad mood all around - while DH was chipper and losing weight. I am feeling good - occasional head aches, many trips to the bathroom...but overall feeling really good. DH and I are both happy with the loss we are seeing (see end of post for details). And I know there is a good chance that we could gain the weight right back once this is over...but we are really going to try and eliminate some of the foods that are overall not the healthiest for us.
For example, pastas and breads with gluten. We are really enjoying the corn pasta and may stick to that or try the brown rice pasta....if eliminating gluten will help us, we may give it a try.

Today's breakfast I decided to switch it up a bit, I had Organic brown rice puffs with soy milk with mixed berries. It was really good - although I found the puffs got mushy quickly once in the milk...will just have to eat a bit faster. I have been amazed at how satisfied these breakfasts have been leaving me - I am not hungry mid morning and am just feeling hungry at our typical lunch time 11:30.

For lunch, I had the leftover fried rice and pasta with tomatoes...again. It really is yummy, so I am not minding having it every day - this makes me look forward to something different and yummy for dinner. I topped it off with some cucumbers and some cherries for a treat afterwards. Although, I didn't end up eating very many, as I spent most of the time de-pitting cherries for E. He's so high-maintenance LOL. For lunch for the kids, I made 'deluxe white cheddar macaroni' - this is my favourite and it was SOOO hard for me not to eat a spoonful from the pot...but I did it! Once we were done, I immediately poured the leftovers into the waste bin! YAY for me! And YAY for will power!

For dinner, I went with my sister to Swiss Chalet - I ordered what I figured was the best option - a 1/4 chicken and a baked potato and had some steamed veggies from my sister's plate. It was so yummy. I even told the waitress NOT to bring the bun as I figured if it was on my plate, I may be tempted to eat it. After dinner, we went to a movie "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" - Great movie! SUCH a tearjerker! I ordered a medium popcorn and a bottle of water - eating only half the bag. I'm sure that the salt in the popcorn, right before bed will lead me to be up a bit tomorrow morning....we'll see.

Day 3 - Over and out!

DH: 255.8 (Total -6lbs)

Wild Rose Herbal Detox Day 2

So Day 2 started off with both DH and I being pretty happy with the numbers on the scale. I am down 2.7lbs and he is down 3.9. Feeling good - a bit of headache still and tummy ache...but both of those are normal reactions to the detox.

We both had oatmeal and berries for breakfast this morning - I won't post pics of repeated meals, but will try and take pics of new recipes/meals that we have during the 12 days.

Lunch was a mixture of the fried rice and the leftover corn pasta with tomatoes - it was quite yummy all mixed together.

For dinner, we had the Wild Rose meatloaf recipe I found last time around, baked potatoes and corn. This is a huge family favourite. The kids LOVE it - My sweet girl devoured her meal...which is not a common thing at dinner time.

I didn't feel like snacking last night, so while I was making L's lunch - I had a handful of cherries. I had a horrible head ache and was exhausted so I crawled into bed around 9:45.

On to Day 3.

Wild Rose Herbal DTox Day 1

Last year DH and I completed the 12 day Wild Rose Herbal DTox - if you read my other blog, you'll remember I documented almost daily about food intake, mood, energy etc. If not...check out the link here:
Wild Rose Herbal DTox blogs

Well, DH really wanted to try it again, he did very well on it - lost 9 lbs in the 12 days...I lost 2. BOO! So I figured since I would be cooking for him, I might as well do it again, too.
So...today is DAY 1. And here is what I have to look forward to. 2 pills from each bottle and 40 drops of the extract before breakfast and lunch. See that bottle of "laxaherb"??? That is my favourite one! =S

So here is breakfast this morning.
Oatmeal with strawberries, blueberries and raspberries...water and my wonderful mixture of herbs and yucky extract. They taste terrible. I made a big batch of oatmeal last night and it actually was pretty good - I added a bit of cinnamon in it (maybe what was lacking last time around) I gave DH a bite and he loved it...so we will probably eat that a lot of that for breakfast over the next 12 days.

For lunch, I had fried rice/quinoa dish. It called for 3 1/2 cups of brown rice but I decided to half it and mix it with quinoa. It was a really yummy recipe that we tried last time around. I also had some cucumbers and berries for a light dessert. I made a huge batch so that DH could take some to work for lunch the next few days as well.

Dinner was amazing - we had haddock drizzled in garlic lemon butter and decorated with parsley ;) Organic gluten free corn pasta and broccoli & cauliflower. The fish turned out amazing - was so tasty....DH and I both really liked the corn pasta - I added grape tomatoes and green peppers with some seasoning. Turned out quite yummy!

We had bowling last night and did well with no snacks - we both brought large bottles of water. It was so funny, though, cause DH won the weekly prize which was a free appetizer. OH NO! The manager offered us to take it the next week - which will be a few days after we are finished the 12 days. Once home and organized we caught up on some shows and enjoyed some air-popped popcorn. Delish! It almost felt like cheating.

So - Day 1 is over...we are both feeling pretty good - despite a mild headache for me throughout the day. On to Day 2.

Starting Weight:
Me: 166.4
DH: 261.8

Ankle Update

So, Tuesday night I headed back to the walk in as my ankle is still quite sore and really bothering me. AND I realized that I cannot flex my foot down AT ALL. There is a picture of the gimpy thing. I can point my toes down no problem with my right foot - but the left won't budge any further than that. It's totally stuck. I showed DH and he was quite concerned, so I headed back to the walk in as I knew my doctor would be on that night.

She is also concerned and is sending me for an ultrasound and for some physiotherapy. I go for my ultrasound on the 25th and then physio starts the 30th - I go two times next week. Nervous as DH said that it'll probably hurt during the exercises, etc. And man, it hurts like crazy when I move it...or bump the ankle bone...ticks me off - this is what I get for trying to get healthy and learning to run. Damn ankle!

OUCH!

Hey Everyone,
So I realized today that I haven't really blogged in a while. The last post I wrote was Dec 14th and I was feeling good about my C25K progress. Fast forward to the next evening - L and I were going to check the mail when we decided to race back home - as I turned the corner for home, I stepped right onto a large river rock from my neighbours garden and down I went - hurting my ankle quiet badly. Poor sweetie, she was so worried about me and really tried to help me the short walk home. I immediately iced it - it hurt like hell. I tried to stay off it as much as possible, but had so much planned that weekend that it was virtually impossible to rest it.
I went to the doctor on Dec. 23rd as it was still really sore - it didn't hurt as much to walk on it as it did to actually push on my ankle bone. So, she sent me for an x-ray which revealed NOTHING. No break or obvious injury, so she advised me to stay off it as much as possible...take advil and ice it. Ummmm....it was Christmas weekend - absolutely impossible to stay off it.

So...it is now January 10th and it is still sore...so there has been ZERO treadmill activity for this gal. But I have tried to do some activity...DH got me Wii Just Dance 3 for Christmas and man, it is a BLAST! So much fun. There are a few dances that leave my ankle a little sore, but I just take it easier on that foot and work my other side and arms like crazy. It is SO much fun! The kids both love it and we have done it a few times a week since I got it. It has a lot of the popular songs of right now (i.e. Party Rock Anthem - E's favourite and California Gurls - L's favourite) We have a blast and laugh a ton. What's better than getting some exercise while having a great time with your kids?????

Another thing I wanted to tell you about it is another one of my presents from DH. I got a FITBIT Ultimate Tracker This is no ordinary pedometer..."Fitbit Ultra's super sensitive 3-D motion sensor tracks your day down to details a pedometer can't catch, showing your exact steps taken, calories burned, and distance traveled. The new altimeter tracks floors climbed (new) so you can monitor this heart-healthy activity" You upload everything to the fitbit.com website - like activity, your food intake, sleep - oh ya, that's another thing - it has a sleep mode that tracks your sleep cycle. This may be my favourite part of the device. You wear the fitbit inside a sleeve you wear on your wrist...and sleep away...and when you wake up in the morning and place it in the USB charger/uploader this is what you see:

This was my sleep cycle for last night. I have had a pretty high sleep efficiency...and am waking up anywhere from 5-9 times a night. I like seeing how many many hours I'm in bed...and how many hours I am actually sleeping. It is pretty cool and am trying to get in extra steps if I see that I am lower (they want you to shoot for 10,000 a day).

So - on that note, I am off to get my kiddies to bed...but wanted to give you an update on how things have been going.
OH! And if you noticed my weigh in from last week - 2.3 up - really not all that bad after not weighing in for 2 weeks and it being Christmas/New Years. My leader has said that the average weight gain over the holidays is 7-10 lbs - so getting back on track tomorrow and will slowly try and get back onto the treadmill.
Wish me luck!
Night night, peeps!
